Fighting Holiday Hunger

Fighting Holiday Hunger

We are delighted to be volunteering with FareShare South West this summer as part of their mission to help fight holiday hunger.

Kate and I (along with a few family members!) will be making food parcels for families in need across Bristol and the South West. We have also set up a fundraiser where anyone who donates will be entered into our fabulous giveaway! Have a read about the wonderful things FareShare do and what we've been up to!

FareShare's Mission

Thousands of families, children, elderly and vulnerable people face food insecurity as a daily reality with food poverty rates soaring due to the effects of Covid. fundraiser

FareShare work to fight both food waste and hunger through saving hundreds of tonnes of good food from going to waste. They then redistribute it around the South West, to charities, schools and community groups…over 400 of them including children’s clubs, homeless hostels and refuges, who then turn it into meals for vulnerable people. Last year they redistributed enough food for over 5 MILLION meals!

Fighting Holiday Hunger

Children are particularly vulnerable during school holidays as Julian Mines, CEO at FareShare South West explains:

“Before the pandemic, we knew that 1 in 4 children were at risk of hunger in Bristol and with the impacts of the past 15 months we anticipate that number has grown. School holidays are a key, time-critical moment to provide support to families to avoid them falling through the gaps and into more complex issues relating to poverty”

In 2019, FareShare’s holiday programme delivered food for 70,000 meals - this summer they are hoping to go even further to stop children going hungry, working together with frontline charities across Bristol, Feeding Bristol and the council.

Boxlocal rolling up their sleeves!

Everyone knows we know our way around a box so we certainly have relished the challenge of preparing food parcels for vulnerable children across our city.

The volunteers at FareShare are truly inspiring and we have really loved rolling our sleeves up and getting involved with the team.

Donate and be in with a chance to win!

FareShare South West is a small independent charity which relies entirely on donations and grants to keep doing the work they do. They receive no statutory funding whatsoever, so our support is vital for them. Every pound donated helps FareShare provide four meals for people in need across the South West.

We have set up our very own fundraiser so when you donate to this fabulous charity, you will be automatically entered into our giveaway and could win our 'The Ultimate’ Box worth £85. Click here to donate.

The competition ends on Friday 13th August, where we will choose a winner at random!

Join us on the fight against food waste and hunger in the South West!
